Elegant in Black and White

Well, I think I've gotten over my black phobia.  Indeedie doodle, I'm sure of it.  I wanted to make an elegant card this week for Heartfelt Creations and nothing speaks to elegant quite as well as clean, sharp black and white.

I decided to add a little ice blue to the mix for a subtle pop of colour.  I like the way it lightens the look of the card.  I used vellum over the blac stripe because it is such a strong pattern that it was over powering on the card and I want the sentiment to be the focal point, not the stripes.

I used a pale blue chalk ink to stamp the flourish under the sentiment - it's a favourite effect of mine.  I'm not sure I'm so fond of all the pearls, but I do like the way they accent the flourish.  It's too bad I couldn't figure a way to make it appear more symmetrical...

Do take a peek at the Heartfelt Creations blog for the instructions to make this card and see what the rest of the very talented design team created this week.

stamps; HCPC 2253 Flourish Backgrounds, HCPC 3311 Hope in the Lord (Heartfelt Creations)
paper; Black & White Butterfly (MAMBI), Powder Blue, Blackberry swirl, Coconut Swirl (bazzill), vellum medium pearl (paper accents)
ink; Aspen Mist chalk ink (versa magic), black soot distress ink (ranger)
accessories; black stitched ribbon (discontinued), beetle black brads (bazzill), adhesive back pearls (kaiser), labels 14 (spellbinders), ornate die - tim holtz alterations (sizzix)

Wonderful card, Loretta! Brilliant to use the vellum to mute the impact of the black and I really love you technique of using the pale blue chalk ink for the flourish!

Wishing you and your family a blessed New Year full of happiness and good health!

Hugs,
Linda
