love to create

A week ago a wonderful lady from my church took me and my family for lunch after service a couple of Sundays ago. I have 4 kids, all well behaved, but still... I was grateful because we don't get invited many places very often. Wherever we go, we are a crowd.

I made this card just for her. I've known her for nearly 20 years, taught her kids in Sunday school and now they have kids of their own. Okay, I was VERY young teaching the teen class. Still, makes me feel old-ish.

I used one of my favourite new sentiments from A Muse artstamps. I love that little multi-tasking stamp. I'm not a very cutsie person, but I love this little guy sunning himself - he's a house mouse stamp that I got just a couple of weeks ago. I stamped him using timber brown stazon on watercolour paper (I liked the texture for this card) then spent the evening colouring him with my NEW prisma colours (check my older blogs for that story...). I used a combination of 5 yellows and browns for the petals, 3 browns for the flower centre and 4 browns/greens for the stem. I love how prisma colours layer to give depth to images. When the mouse was done, I used gamsol to blend the colours - no more pencil lines!

I sponged cool caribbean and brocade blue for the sky, old olive and so saffron for the bottom of the image. The sponging gives so depth to the background. The beauty of prisma colouring and then sponging is that the prisma colours resist the water base ink. This isn't fool-proof, but I was careful and so there's no blue on top of the yellow flower.

This didn't feel finished until I added the Queen & Co. sassy sequins. It makes it a little over the top, but that's what I wanted to do for my friend. She's over the top so her card had to be too.

I hate only orange and yo-yo yellow paper from SU!, so I was thrilled to use them here - use 'em up, get 'em gone!!! I layered yo-yo yellow with summer sun under the main image. I like that it tones down the yellow effect.
