The Folk Art Neighbourhood

I've combined another 3 challenges from the week of Dare to get Dirty challenges on Splitcoaststampers. I have ideas for more of the challenges, but I am running out of time, so I suspect I'll simply post as I finish them over the next however long and give credit for inspiration where it is due.

I have used a few discontinued products on this card because I do have quite a bit of older favourite papers, dies and stamps and I'm more of a collector (hoarder) and I seem to find that as soon as I donate or sell a stamp set, die set or paper, I immediately regret it because it would be 'PERFECT' for whatever I am working on.

I cut and embossed the Neighbourhood Glance die template from watercolour paper. I made the paper quite damp using an aqua painter and then sponged the paper with distress inks, which have such a wonderful reaction with water. This allowed me to get a very smooth blend between colours. By using a big, fat sponge wedge to apply the colour, I was able to achieve a folk art look, reminiscent of Maud Lewis, one of Canada's favourite folk artists from Nova Scotia.

My 17 year old son saw this card, and it made him smile. He said he loved it, so I think I might have instilled some joy in my card like Lewis's paintings invoke in Canadians. Using the Gift of Happiness pop up card die template made it easy to create a scene card like a town built on the Nova Scotia shore line. (Historical picture of Lunenburg, N.S.)

As always, I'm thrilled you stopped by and I appreciate the kind words you leave for me.

stamps; bugs life (crafty secrets)
ink; peeled paint, frayed burlap, forest moss, bundled sage, aged mahogany, fired brick, weathered wood, faded jeans distress ink (ranger), onyx black versafine (tsukineko)
paper; kraft cardstock (bazzill), home sweet home (graphic 45), 140lb cold press watercolor paper, the garden tea party stack (DCWV)
accessories; neighborhood glance, gift of happiness, lg long rectangles (spellbinders), green twill tape (basic grey - disc), wink of stella - clear (zig)

Surprise! Yes it really is me. It is ages since I have seen you and have missed our times of stamping. We are now living in Calgary so we could be closer to the girls. They seem to think we need some looking after which is greatly appreciated. It would be so nice if you could come for a visit. I don't get out much, can't do stairs so it limits me.

I am thinking of starting blogging again, we will see how that goes.

I love your card. You have created such a lovely, happy scene with great colors. You still are creating beautiful images.

Thanks for your inspiration.
