ODBD October New Release

Happy October, friends! This month, Our Daily Bread Designs has released some stunning Christmas inspired stamps sets and coordinating dies.

For my first project, I have repurposed a bag from a store at our local mall. The colour of the bag is a perfect match for Christmas Collection 2014, and it was easy to go from there.

I wanted to emphasize the gold flourishes in the paper, so I chose gold as an accent colour for the rest of the bag. I used a gold paint pen to edge the tag - it's so easy to do and adds a huge impact.

This large tag is another easy touch for the gift bag. I cut out the pennant shaped base and used a small circle die to cut the hole where I wanted the ribbon to come through. This is a great technique for any larger shape to turn it into a tag. To finish it off, I used super fine detail gold embossing powder to stamp this ornament from Delightful Decorations and cut it out using the coordinating Delightful Decorations die. Easy peasy!

ink; versamark (tsukineko)
accessories; delightful decorations die set (odbd), gold paint pen (marvy uchida), gold cord (really reasonable ribbon), white ribbon (offray), baby buntings, classic circles sm (spellbinders)

My next project is quick and easy, clean and simple. I know the more intricate and highly detailed cards are simply divine and so satisfying to create, but sometimes I need to put a card together quickly as we are nearly on the way out the door and my stash is neglected.

I created this card knowing that sometimes, a little quick inspiration is key. The drama and appeal for this card comes from the contrast between the flourished white overlay on a sparkly background.

I cut out green cardstock using the largest die from Delightful Decorations and inked it completely using versamark. Then, I poured a thick layer of irridescent embossing powder and heat set it.

I just couldn't get a picture that does this ornament justice. The contrast between the stunning gold paper from Christmas Collection 2015, green and white is really quite spectacular.

ODBD Mid-month Release

First off, I want to offer my sincerest apologies for the lighting in my photographs. Every single light bulb in my studio burned out in less than a week and I was really stuck because it was a bit of a gloomy fall week in my part of the world so I couldn't use natural light. I'll be back up and running in short order! My daughter just started working in a lighting store and will be able to advise me for the best bulbs to purchase for my very specific needs.

Our Daily Bread Designs has a mid-month launch for September, and it is lovely!!

For my first card, I've used stamps from Beauty. The lilies in this set are quite beautiful, and the sentiments are second to none.

I've used Boho background without embossing it to create a white lattice base for the sentiment. The grey cardstock under the white lattice was spritzed with White Picket Fence distress spray stain which provides a very subtle random patterning.

The lilies were stamped using grey flannel memento ink. I marked a band on the white base cardstock  in pencil where the grey and white lattice would be placed so I could precisely stamp and colour the lilies. The lilies were coloured using a very limited monochromatic palette of copic markers (N0, 2, 4, 6). After, I painted over the shading lines on the petals using a Wink of Stella clear glitter brush. I'm pleased I was able to pick up some of the remarkable shine in the poor lighting I had available to me at the time! It is such a pretty effect.

stamps; beauty (odbd)
paper; white, grey cardstock (bazzill)
ink; grey flannel memento, onyx black versafine (tsukineko)
accessories; boho background (odbd), white ribbon (offray), N0, 2, 4, 6 copic markers (copic), clear wink of stella (zig), lg classic rectangles dies, tool n one, grand calibur (spellbinders)

I just love the asters that bloom in my yard every fall by early October. I am watching the buds form now and eagerly anticipate this last, glorious hurrah before my gardens become dormant for our long northern winter. With this vision in mind, I have used Pretty Posy dies to create the floral cluster on my card. Each petal and leaf was sponged on the edges using frayed burlap and/or black soot distress ink.

The wrought iron look of Leafy Edge Borders when cut and embossed from black cardstock is quite spectacular, and perfect for a garden scene card, I think.

I used a random selection of copper and brown brads for my flower centers to add a touch of whimsy. It's just fun to add that visual incongruity occasionally, don't you agree? The Vintage Ephemera Collection of papers is just the perfect background for all this luscious understated vintage elegance.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop today!

ODBD September Release

Welcome to the September release blog hop for Our Daily Bread Designs. From this release, my favourite stamps set is Deep Waters, and part of that is because I love the worship song Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) and one of the lines from that song is a stamp in this set.

For my first card, I went completely against the flow (forgive the pun!) of this release and created a classic card.

I have used Vintage Flourish Pattern to create an instant background for my card. I always appreciate when dies make beautiful card making this quick and easy! Grab some paper, put the die on it, crank it through, and Voila! Instant gorgeousness!

The Stitched Oval die was from a new release set last month. LOVE! I'm such a fan of dies that do stitching and piercing for me, and I have both on this card.

stamps; deep waters (odbd)
paper; christian faith collection (odbd), ivory, plum cardstock
ink; onyx black versafine (tsukineko)
accessories; vintage flourish pattern, stitched ovals (odbd), ivory ribbon, ivory adhesive pearls

While I know this card might look simple, it took me 2 days to create the background paper. I thoroughly soaked a piece of watercolor paper. Then I gathered all the inks that made me think, 'Beach, sand, surf" and I applied a random wash of the colours, with a sprinkle of kosher salt, allowing it to dry between each layer. I didn't use a heat gun because I wanted to allow as much open time as possible to allow things (salt, ink flow) to happen naturally.

I flicked 4 different shimmer paints, again allowing for drying time between each of the colours because this time I didn't want the colours to mix. The beautiful and subtle shimmer is really quite wonderful.

After all this work, I almost spit nickels that I stamped the sentiment over the ONE large dark splatter on the entire card. Ack! It was a palm to forehead moment, and, well, that's how I roll today.

stamps; deep waters (odbd)
paper; white cardstock (bazzill), 140lb watercolor paper (strathmore)
ink; pebble, pool adirondack ink, tumbled glass, iced spruce, bundled sage distress ink (ranger), onyx black versafine (tsukineko)
accessories; sea horse charm (blue moon beads), cool caribbean, luscious lime silk lustre (spellbinders), sand, sea glass glimmer mist (tattered angels), linen cord (canvas corps)

ODBD August Release

Welcome to the Our Daily Bread Designs August Release blog hop! At the end of my post you will find the rules for the ODBD release contest and the Blog Hop links for the rest of the design team.

I have created this frame and background using the new release Boho Background die set. Wonderful stuff, yes? I created the smaller center frame using other basic rectangle dies. Once I adhered this smaller rectangle frame on the Boho Background, I trimmed away the Boho Background from the inside by hand. Super simple.

This sentiment is from Boho Faith, one of the new release stamps sets. It is quite wonderful, don't you agree?

stamps; boho faith (odbd)
paper; beautiful boho collection (odbd), white cardstock (bazzill)
ink; tuxedo black (tsukineko)
accessories; boho background die (odbd), small & large classic rectangle dies (spellbinders)

For my second card, I jumped quite firmly out of my comfort zone and used a lot of very bright colour from the Beautiful Boho Collection paper on my project. We're talking Olympic length long jump...

Isn't the effect joyful using such vibrant colour? I used a little vellum to provide a contrasting panel for this lovely sentiment from Boho Faith.

For this butterfly, I used a die from Trois Papillion and carefully positioned it on the Beautiful Boho Collection paper to create a quick and easy no colour or stamp butterfly. Isn't the effect simply terrific?! I covered the butterfly in an iridescent embossing powder to recreate the look of the shiny scales on butterfly wings.

Do continue with the design team blog hop using the links listed below, and have a blessed weekend!

ODBD July Release

Welcome! I have 2 projects to show for the July release from Our Daily Bread Designs. This first card uses the floral stamp from Fragrance.

This floral cluster makes creating a lovely, feminine card a breeze, which is why I chose to create this in pale pink and white.

I stamped the image using versamark and heat embossed it using gold detail embossing powder. I coloured it with copic markers and overpainted it using glimmer mist to increase the shine. The leaves were cut using Fancy Foliage dies and heat embossed using a shabby pink enamel powder. The effect is amazing!!

I cut the lattice inset using Quatrefoil Pattern die. I thought of using this die to emboss, but I really wanted the contrast between white and pink to shine. Another variation that I think would be lovely would be to adhere gold studs, gems or pearls in the centers of the repeating quatrefoil pattern.

I really love this card, the floral image and the sentiments in this set. It's a fave for certain!!

stamps; fragrance (odbd)
paper; tickled pink, white cardstock (bazzill), x-press it blending card (copic)
ink; versamark (tsukineko)
accessories; quatrefoil pattern die, fancy foliage die (odbd), shabby pink embossing enamel (stampendous), fine detail gold embossing powder (ranger), white ribbon (offray)

ODBD June Release

Happy June, friends! The June release from Our Daily Bread Designs is perfectly focused on the themes of the month - Father's Day and Sunshne!

I am really enjoying the muted tones of the Vintage Ephemera Collection paper and it co-ordinates so perfectly with the gorgeous masculine stamps and dies released this month.

This verse is one of my husband's favourites, so I was thrilled to see it in this release. I have plans for the rest of the sentiments in the Good Man set of stamps.

These darling Workshop Tool dies are simply divine!! I have cut them out of neutral cardstock, which I coloured using a silver paint pen. I ran the hammer and screwdriver dies through using blue for the handles, cut the handle portion off and aged it using copic markers to colour. I tied the little tool bundle together with hemp twine.

This Sunshine themed collection is a very fun release from ODBD. While this background has the appearance of an embossing folder, it is a metal die template and it does beautiful work cutting, piercing and embossing all at the same time.

I used red, orange and yellow glitter spray on a paintbrush to create the splatter pattern on the background. Once I loaded the paintbrush with glitter spray, I tapped the brush on my finger so the spray pattern would have a larger drip pattern.

I sponged the sentiment while in a basic rectangle die template to  really draw attention to this lovely sentiment. I've used an adhesive rhinestone to embellish this wee sun. So fun!!
