Memories are Fleeting, Cherish Each One

2012 was both an exhilarating and difficult year.

I relaunched my teaching career which has been so very good for me and my family. I love teaching and I get energy from working with teens all day, every day. I am called to teach and I know this is the area where I am spiritually gifted. I have been substitute teaching almost full time since the day after I was given my employee number by my local school board. I am looking forward to having my own classroom. I really love teaching in the High School my kids go to, and I LOVED teaching my own daughter. I teach in a city with a population of more than 1 million, and so I teach with a very large school board. Teaching my own kids is awesome, and their friends like me teaching in their classes too. It really is a lovely, happy thing I do everyday.

I am 1/3 finished my Master's degree in Education. This has been challenging, but in the very best way. I was  concerned about returning to post-secondary education after 17 years away from it, and at the graduate level, but I am doing very well, and I am so glad I took this very big step. My classes start again today.

Because of these changes, I had to make the decision to step down from my design teams. I really miss the wonderful people I worked with and I do stalk all my stamping peeps, although not as often as I would like.

I'll tell you about a grand adventure I'm going on this coming summer in another post. It really is grand - stay tuned!!

Because of my grand adventure, I must keep making cards, but it can't interfere with teaching or my classes. So I will be changing my stamping style somewhat. I need to start making cards that take less time, but are still very rich looking. I'm also making multiple cards at the same time. If I cut a 6"x6" card base, I've cut 2 by default because I use 12"x12" paper. I need to figure out what it means for me to stamp smarter, not harder. I will be looking for inspiration more rather than pressuring myself to make it all up. This card was inspired by the magnificent Becca Feeken's card, From My Heart.

I will continue using richer colours, and I am finding sentiments are easier because I don't colour them. I think I need to get faster with my colouring skills if I want to keep colouring darling little images. I have a massive stockpile of supplies, so I can go for a very long time without needing to resupply, except that I will need more adhesive at some point. So sorry to all my suppliers and shopping destinations!! I am hoping to do some very cool stuff to some very old (5yrs+) papers and embellishments that haven't seen the light of day in a long time. Now that I have no commitments to any specific stamp company, I will be using some of my personal favourite stamps that I paid good money for but have sat gathering dust for too long.

I love the look of this white lattice, but it was a real pain to punch, and it bothers the perfectionist in me that I didn't get the hang of lining it up really well. I didn't find this Martha Stewart punch easy to use either. I love the idea of it and might keep trying since I really like the look of it. I just might not really be able to afford the time to get the hang of this for another year though...

Have a great day, friends. Thanks so much for those of you who keep stalking my blog. I look forward to updating a few times a month, and you will hear all about my teaching adventures. Do I have some fun and funny stories to tell!! I love high school kids!

I'm so pleased to hear how much you're enjoying teaching. I went back after 20 years and just love it! I think life experience and maturity bring something to teachers which is so valuable in the classroom. I taught my son for a short time last year when a colleague was off sick and really enjoyed it - I don't think my son was traumatised by the experience, either! I know exactly what you meaning about "stamping smarter"; my time management still needs a lot of work! Sending hugs, Tracey

Such a lovely card, I agree those punches aren't easy but I do love the look, like your gems to embellish it, lovely flower and bow too! Great layering of the sentiment tags
